1977. 45 111 GRENADIER GUARDSMAN awaits departure with an early afternoon train to St Pancras on 09/04/1977. Sporting dominoes and four numbers, and still with intact regimental crest.

1984.  45 111 GRENADIER GUARDSMAN brings the 1005 Liverpool - Newcastle service through Miles Platting on 26/04/1984. photo Andy Floyd.  

 1985.  Prior to losing the nameplates and having the high intensity headlight affixed, 45112 on the outskirts of Holyhead stands in for the booked 47 on the 1246 Holyhead - Euston… June 2nd 1985.

 1986. Without its nameplate and with high intensity headlight, 45 112 awaits departure from Nuneaton on 12/07/1986. The train is 1M28 1515 Paignton - Nottingham which the loco has worked from Bristol.

1974. 45 113 at Nottingham Eastcroft SP on 13/01/1974. The loco was the first 45/1 to receive just one number per side upon renumbering.

1977. Powering the 1M17 1100 Sheffield - St Pancras towards Ilkeston is 45 113 on 22/11/1977.

    1979. 45 114 arrives at Chesterfield on 15/09/1979 working 1M79 1500 Sheffield - St Pancras to Nottingham. The livery, applied during an E exam at Toton, was unique to this loco.

1982. "45 114 waits to depart from Plymouth with 'The Cornishman' 1E21 1021 Penzance - Bradford Exchange on the 23rd January 1982.  Looks like the loco has just coupled up as the rear of the 45114 is drawing the attention of platform staff and train crew. The train was brought into Plymouth by 50019 & 50001. This train was load 8 and non-stop to Exeter St Davids. I regularly timed trains and on this occasion asterisked the run in my notebook as being a storming 55 minutes and 25 seconds. What a beast 45114 was and I am not the only one to think that."

1984. "45 114 passes Lenton South Jct with 1C24 1305 Nottingham - St Pancras on a dank and dismal 26/02/1984.

1986. 45 114 , with 45 132, stand at Kettering awaiting departure to St Pancras with the 1215 from Derby on 23/11/1986.

 1967. After arrival at Cardiff with 1V79 0725 from York, D81 is about to shunt the train across platforms for the return departure hauled by a class 47 on this occasion. 09/05/1967.

1974. 45 115 is seen during a nine month stint in Derby Works after an accident at Buxton in November 1974. This end would receive an integral centre panel to replace the box headcodes.

1973. Not long before entering Derby Works for conversion to ETH loco 45 116, D47 is seen arriving at Derby on 1E26 1205 St Pancras - Sheffield in 1973. The loco carried the D prefix through until receiving the TOPS number.

  1980. 45 118 THE ROYAL ARTILLERYMAN runs into Leicester passed "those" signals on a morning Sheffield - St Pancras service on 02/07/1980. One of the last to lose the dominoes, this happened om entering Derby Works the following month, despite that shiny nose.

1983. 1E73 1737 Cardiff - Leeds at Gloucester on 22/01/1983. Every member of the class 45/1s is known to have worked this train.

 In the twilight zone at Nottinghams' platform 1, 45118 has arrived with 1D90 1855 from St Pancras - Nottingham on May 2nd 1986.

1987. Just shy of eighteen years after recording D67 as his first ever haulage, from Derby to Scarborough, in July 1969, Trevor Dorrington captures a nameplate-less 45 118 THE ROYAL ARTILLERYMAN on platform 2B at Derby with the TPO vans to be shunted onto the rear of 1V97 1615 Newcastle - Bristol TM on 07/04/1987. Trev was getting his priorities right, with his wife having just gone into labour!! Note also the orange cantrail stripe, Snail logo above the number, and high intensity headlight.

     1967. D34 on arrival at Cardiff General with 1V70 0724 York - Cardiff on 08/05/1967. The loco is still in lined Brunswick Green livery with small yellow ends, and still devoid of taillight grabrails. OHE flashes are in standard positions and the loco is still carrying a shedplate. Boiler grill and steps remain unplated.

     1986.  45 119 arrives at Derby on the 11th May 1986 with the Skirl of the Pipes railtour which it had worked from Polmadie via Middlesbrough & Hull as far as Birmingham. It then returned straight back to Newcastle on the Poole  - Newcastle & the following day worked back to Birmingham on the Newcastle - Poole!
