1971. Twenty four days before going into Derby Works and losing the green livery for good, not just the driver's door, D141 heads towards Cardiff at Gaer Junction, Newport on 02/07/1971. The 0S27 headcode suggests it may have worked the Plymouth - Edinburgh to Bristol that morning.

photo Jim Sparks.

46 007 - D144

Mid December 1961. D144 at Neville Hill MPD for crew training ready for the class to start work on the Newcastle - Liverpool services. Only a few days old at this stage, the loco had the new small yellow warning panels applied to the nose ends within days of this photo. Note blue star vinyls, which very few all over green loco's carried, no taillight grabrails and newly fitted 55H shedplate.

photo Steve Banks.

1961. D144 newly painted at Neville Hill MPD on 17/12/1961. The loco entered traffic on 09/12/1961 in all over lined green, so has acquired the small yellow panel during this week. The 55H shedplate and blue star  signage has not been re-applied, so this paint job may have been done at Darlington Works, or even at Neville Hill, itself, where the loco was being used for crew training. D144 was one of the first ten (D138-D147) of what would become class 46 which didn't receive taillight grabrails during construction.

The split centre headcode panel has been replaced with an integral central and the bottom grille has been fitted. The loco has no grab rails next to the taillights, though; one of ten to be devoid of these (D138 - D147).
